Drip trays vs spill pallets: which do I need?
Question
What is the difference between a drip tray and a spill pallet?
Short answer
A drip tray is usually used for smaller containers, machinery, batteries, tools or minor leaks. A spill pallet is a larger bunded containment product used for drums, IBCs or containers where greater secondary containment is needed.
SERPRO practical guidance
Choose a drip tray where the aim is to catch drips, small leaks or residues from a container or item of equipment. Choose a spill pallet where containers are larger, stored for longer, handled by forklift or where bund capacity requirements apply. For oil storage, UK guidance sets out requirements that can apply to business containers of 201 litres or more.
Common mistake to avoid
Do not use a shallow drip tray as a substitute for properly sized bunded storage where the stored volume requires secondary containment.
